The Cultural Awareness and
Social Inclusion Committee
of the City of La Verne
In 2018, the Mayor, City Manager, and a small group of residents and city stakeholders began meeting to discuss incidents of racism that had occurred in the City of La Verne and potential solutions. This group met monthly, and have continued to do so ever since. In 2019, the group formed themselves into an informal community-based committee.
In 2020, the La Verne City Council voted to support the committee as an official committee of the City of La Verne. As a result, the city manager, city staff, residents, and stakeholders formed the bylaws for the Committee on Cultural Awareness and Social Inclusion (“CASI”). The City Council unanimously approved CASI and its bylaws and appointed two councilpeople to serve on the committee.
Our Mission
The Committee on Cultural Awareness and Social Inclusion shall provide a forum for discussion and avenues to educate and pursue, so that individuals and professionals from diverse fields can create opportunities for peace and good order, and provide equal opportunity for good will and hospitality toward all people.
